From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
